Active Rehab can seem a lot like personal training. These are the two main services we offer here at Positive Shift in Burnaby. Here we compare and contrast them.

What is Active Rehab?

We offer active rehabilitation for people who are injured in car accidents. This is one-on-one exercise with one of our Kinesiologists. We are committed to helping our clients return to work and the leisure activities they like to do.

A well planned and implemented rehabilitation program is crucial to effective recovery and helps people to resume work or leisure activities. We help people to follow the right exercise program for them. Make the most of the time that you spend on your exercises. We often address postural issues and improve core strength and stability. The programs are always unique to the individual needs of the client.

This program is for someone who is injured in a car accident. Partial or complete funding from ICBC is available to most people.

What is Personal Training?

Personal training is the best way to train! Let us design a program for you and lead you through it. We make it easy for people to be successful. Guided goal setting, custom program design and a challenging workout with an energetic and attentive trainer. Our personal trainers have a background in Kinesiology, the study of how the body moves. We take a functional approach to training and this can include fitness instruction as well as rehabilitation. The personal training program here in Burnaby is more flexible than a prescribed active rehabilitation program.

What is similar?

Both are 1 on 1 sessions with a personal trainer who is also a kinesiologist. Both are designed to help people function better and feel better.

What is different?

The key difference is that active rehabilitation has a therapeutic end goal. Returning to work or leisure is often where to program stops. Personal training doesn’t have a set end goal. It may continue through many cycles of goal setting and goal achievement. Also, active rehabilitation programs are always 1 on 1. We do offer personal training to two people at once as well as small group training.
